Papua (Mulia with frequent visits to the Sinak District)
The general objective of Médecins du Monde is to improve health status of people living in the sub-districts of Mulia and Sinak, Papua Island, Indonesia, in 3 years : To improve access to quality Primary Health Care (PHC) services and infectious diseases services (TB, malaria, STI & HIV / AIDS) in the coverage area of 2 health centres in Mulia and Sinak. (6 sub-districts).
In co-operation and under the supervision of the program coordinator, sharing with the local partners and MDM team members, the nurse will be in charge of:
1. Organizing the outreach activities in collaboration with the Dinkes and health staff,
2. increasing and adapting the training of health staff (in puskesmas, in communities)
3. Conducting activities in Sinak sub-district in collaboration with PRIMARI (our local partner)
Specific duties and responsibilities of the nurse:
Trainings:
- Training of community health workers (Kader/Mantri), midwives (bidan) and nurses (perawat on health education, Primary Health Care (including diagnosis and treatment) and Infectious diseases prevention (TB, STI, HIV / Aids and malaria).
- Training of Traditional birth attendants (TBA’s)
- Training of health staff on waste management, hygiene and sterilisation Standards of Procedures.
Based on medical and social analysis, health education methodology must be developed for local health workers in collaboration with local partners (Dinkes, Primari, health structures).
Training is as well formal training as well as on-the-job training during outreach activities.
Activities implementation:
- Implementation and follow-up of the Health Information System
- To organize outreach activities (‘mobile clinic’) in 9 villages supported by MDM. Including health education sessions for communities (safe motherhood, prevention HIV/Aids, condom demonstrations), on-job-training TBA’s in consultation of pregnant women, on-job-training of VHW in consultation and treatment of patients, on-job-training VHW on immunizations.
To encourage the Dinkes in the organisation of regular mobile clinic visits on the 9 villages supported by MdM Creation and update of training tools and IEC material.
Supervision:
- Supervision of the pharmacy and mobile clinic equipment + consumption.
- To supervise the MdM mobile clinic team.
- Follow-up of the trainings with field support and assessment of their impact in the community
- Regular assessment of the population health status and availability of treatment.
- Follow up implementation of Standards of Procedures, checklists and organisation in the health clinics.
- Take part in writing medical report and assessment data.

Profile :
- Registered nurse
- Experience in primary and/or community health care
- Ability and experience in training / capacity-building and skills transfer
- Experience in human resource management
- Interest, curiosity and respect for different culture
- Experience working with NGO in isolated and sensitive context.
- Fluent in English (Bahasa Indonesia would be an asset)
- Ability to learn a new language
- Computer skills
- Experience and interest in elaborating training and creating adapted IEC material.
- Experience in training TBA’s/ consultation of pregnant women.
- Ability to live and share closely with an expatriate/ national team
- Ability and flexibility to cope with different socio-cultural environment
- Ability to work in resource limited and politically sensitive contexts
- Willing to work and live in remote setting with limited amenities and social life.
- Autonomous
- Good listener, patient and understanding
- Communication and negotiation skills
- Confident flying with small planes to reach the sub-districts
- Good physical condition, able and willing to walk long distances
- Ability to adapt to the context and program needs.
