Registered Professional Nurse - American Embassy - Manama - Bahrain

WORK HOURS: Part-time; 20 hours/week
SALARY: - For persons Ordinarily Resident (OR*) in Bahrain: BD 7,172.5/year (BD 597.708/month) starting salary, including allowances (position grade FSN-09).
Applicants ordinarily resident in Bahrain must possess Bahraini government work and/or residency permits to be eligible for consideration.

The American Embassy in Manama is seeking a candidate for employment as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Health Unit.

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION
This position functions as a fully credentialed/licensed professional nurse in Bahrain and provides a full range of professional nursing services to American and Locally Employed Staff. The position is located in the Embassy Health Unit (HU) and is under the direct supervision of the Foreign Service Health Practitioner (FSHP) and provides support and assistance to the Regional Medical Officer/Psychiatrist (RMO/P). The position is part-time and shared.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Note: Items 1-5 are ALL REQUIRED. All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Education: Graduate of a professional nursing school with a current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license from the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Western European equivalent (to include Australia, New Zealand, Canada & South Africa) is required.
2. Experience: At least two years of occupational health experience, with at least one year in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Western European is required.

3. Language: Level 4 (Fluent) speaking/reading English is required.
4. Knowledge: The ability to administer adult and pediatric immunization programs according to current CDC standards is required as are basic nursing skills, such as vital signs measurement and bedside nursing care. A good working knowledge or experience of current health promotion recommendations in the U.S. population is required. Must be familiar with American Nursing standards of care. Must be able to screen patients and triage to ensure urgent conditions are seen by Foreign Service Medical Providers.
5. Abilities & Skills: Must have strong interpersonal skills and a client-oriented disposition. Must be able to perform basic word processing on the computer.

SELECTION PROCESS
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs*) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. A USEFM does not have to be residing in Bahrain to be considered, but the sponsoring officer must be officially assigned to post. A candidate must meet all the aforementioned criteria to be selected.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of “needs improvement” or “unsatisfactory” on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
4. Currently employed U.S. citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
5. Current “not ordinarily resident employees” hired under a Personal Services Agreement are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendardays of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
