Job Description
The Registered Occupational Health Nurse will be working in Kabul at a foreign commonwealth office embassy. You will be responsible for all psychological and occupational health screening to all embassy staff.
Duties
Psychological and occupational health screening to all embassy staff
Emergency and first aid assistance to locally employed workers
Primary care and emergency response to local and expatriate personnel
Appropriate level of trauma care, including preparation and assistance of emergency medical evacuations
Liaise with other agencies to provide full medical support in extreme conditions
Initial face to face consultations with staff two weeks after arrival in post, and every 3 months thereafter.
Implementing occupational health protocols for all personnel
Advice and pastoral care to FCO staff
Management of the clinic ensuring that rooms are well maintained, and that all medical equipment and supplies are stored to UK standards and maintained to UK best practice (including disposal of sharps, and expired medications)
Taking and labelling DNA samples from visa applicants in the form of Buccal swabs
To be considered for this opportunity you will be able to demonstrate experience with the following:
Previous experience in primary health care Independent/autonomous practice
Pre-hospital trauma/ trauma experience (desirable almost essential)
Off shore experience desirable or military experience (hostile environments, working abroad).
Acute nursing (ITU, CCU, Trauma all desirable almost essential)
History taking
Diagnosis and management of both minor and major medical, surgical and traumatic problems,
Prescribing of company formulary drugs,
Preparation for and conduct of aero-medical evacuation,
Prevention and management of cold injuries, prevention, and management of heat related illness and food hygiene and safety.
Acute and primary health care within the British Embassy working
Previous experience of working abroad in hostile and hazardous locations
Qualifications:
Qualified to deliver a range of general nursing skills to an advanced level.
A registered nurse with the Royal College of Nursing (or equivalent) who has completed relevant advanced nursing in a speciality and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions in that speciality.
Teaching qualifications (Nursing, first aid, advanced life support)
Minor injuries/minor illness recognised courses (Practice nursing, women’s health, men’s health, sexual health, asthma, vaccinations, cholesterol testing, drugs testing, smoking cessation, health promotion etc.)
Desirable:
Advanced Life Support (Contractual requirement but for right candidate we can train)
Pre-hospital trauma life support (Contractual requirement but for right candidate we can train)
