Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the National Medical Officer, the incumbent performs the following duties:
1. Performs pre-hospital emergency care to Mission Members (MMs) and assist supervisor during medical evacuation cases :
Assess the condition of mission members who are injured or taken ill suddenly ,decides what action is needed and initiates treatment;
Renders appropriate emergency care, based on competency level, to stabilize the patient such as
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), spinal immobilization, provides oxygen, triage applies splints to limbs, dresses wounds, administers pain relief, oxygen, drips and fluids; uses various kinds of equipment, including ventilators to assist breathing and defibrillators; establishes and maintains intravenous treatment (IV) and provide other emergency treatment to patients;
If needed treats patients in the ambulance while they are being transferred to hospital from the scene in the case of patients being moved to receive specialist care;
Assists during medical evacuation and repatriation of mission members as a result of accidents, sudden illnesses or epidemics;
Documents and records nature of injuries and treatment provided.
2. Performs basic medical examinations and routine check – ups of OMIK MMs; Directs patients to appropriate medical facility/practitioner Provides assistance to MMs in better understanding of the OSCE Van Breda health coverage and assists with procedures for emergency and planned hospitalizations:

Carries out basic medical examinations (closes cuts and small wounds with stitches; administers intravenous injections); Organizes periodical and relevant immunization;
Refers MMs to the relevant medical facilities/practitioners; Assists Supervisor in obtaining feedback on progress made or results achieved;
In supervisor's absence approves sick leave absences upon receipt of medical certificates from a duly qualified medical practitioner. In case of unclear and incomplete documentation requests additional certification or clarification through the respective Mission Member requesting sick leave absence or directly to the relevant medical entity that issued the documentation;
Ensures that all medical information and documentation are properly filed and kept in confidential manner;
Provides assistance to MMs in better understanding of the OSCE Van Breda health coverage and assists with procedures for emergency and planned hospitalizations;
Organizes with professional trainers courses to deal with medical emergencies;
As instructed by the Supervisor receives the visits and/or travels to visit MMs working in the respective OMIK Regional Centres to perform preventive or curative care.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications
Completed secondary education supplemented by a diploma of certified nurse by a recognized institution;
At least 6 years of experience of working in a Medical practice or Hospital preferably in an international set up.Minimum 2 years experience in life savings techniques and established experience in using medical equipment used for testing;Established ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical issues discussed or recorded in medical files;
Computer literate with practical experience with Microsoft packages and other medical software;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and in local languages;
Gender sensitive and ability to work with people of different nationalities, religions and cultural backgrounds;
The incumbent must have a valid driver's license;

Remuneration Package
Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions is 1,087.50 Euro/month. Social benefits will include participation in the Vanbreda health insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund.
Appointments are normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale. At the discretion of the appointing authority a higher step may be approved up to a maximum of step 3 subject to specific conditions.
