Job Description :
The
Lead Paramedic supervises 17 EMT-B’s and 4 paramedics, who provide
emergency medical services for Camp As Sayliyah 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. The Lead Paramedic sets goals, assigns tasks, delegates
duties, with clear definitions of success as well as target dates. The
Lead Paramedic disseminates information, reviews, revises, creates
policies and procedures ensures quality and communicates with the
Medical Director and local EMS agencies. The Lead Paramedic recommends
qualified candidates for open positions and facilitates the integration
of new employees to the team. The Lead Paramedic is responsible for
employee performance appraisals, employee discipline and recognition of
achievements.
Major Job Activites:
1.
Responds to emergency calls, provides advanced life support in
accordance with EMS protocols, and assists other members of the
department. 50%
2. Maintains vehicles and equipment in a serviceable and ready condition. 10%
3.
Participates in continuing medical education (CME) and training
activities, both as an instructor and as a student, depending on the
nature and purpose of the course. 20%
5. Communicates effectively in writing, verbally and over the radio or telephone. 05%
6. Performs various other tasks as assigned by the Fire Chief or his designee. 05%
7. Complies with all applicable rules, regulations/standard operating procedures, as directed
By the Fire Chief, Program Manager and Base Commander. 10%
8. Performs other duties and assignments as required.
Material & Equipment Directly Used:
Operates
specialized Fire Department & Emergency Services vehicles and
equipment, including equipment necessary to protect against excessive
noise, dust, fumes, smoke or chemicals; equipment necessary to protect
oneself against radiation and infectious diseases; and equipment
necessary to work around machinery with moving parts.
Working Environment
The
Lead Paramedic must have the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 45
lbs and be able to collectively lift, carry, and balance patients who
weigh in excess of 100 lbs. In addition, the Lead Paramedic must have
the ability to pull and reach with both hands; crawl, kneel, bend and
climb; work outdoors in excessive heat or cold, high humidity or dry
atmospheric conditions.
Phyisical Activites:
The
Lead Paramedic will be exposed to lifting, pulling and numerous
strenuous activities that paramedic’s face during medical response
calls. Furthermore, the climate in which strenuous work activities will
be required is extremely hot/humid or cold during certain parts of the
year/time of day.
Required Experience: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required and AS degree is
preferred. The knowledge, skills and abilities that are essential for
this position are consistent with The U.S. National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration. Experience: The Lead Paramedic must have a
minimum of four years of experience working on an emergency response
ambulance. In addition, the Lead Paramedic must possess NREMT-P
certification, American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Instructor, (or equivalent), and American Heart Association or ASHI,
BLS Healthcare Provider and PALS Instructor certification, (or
equivalent). The Lead Paramedic must be in good standing with their
certifying organization, and they must maintain these certifications for
the duration of their employment.
Experience:
The Lead Paramedic must have a minimum of four years of experience working on an emergency response ambulance.
Skills:
Need
above average communicative skills, both written & oral, computer
skills, copier/scanning experience and the ability to learn newly
admitted equipment into the EMS inventory. Preferred, seasoned
instructor in the EMS career field.
Supervisory/Budget Responsibilites:
The
Lead Paramedic supervises 17 EMT-B’s and 4 paramedics, who provide
emergency medical services for Camp As Sayliyah 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. The Lead also will evaluate medical supplies stockage, and
communicate with F&ES Management for budget increases or decreases.
