Aspen Medical is seeking a Remote Maritime Doctor to provide clinical services to the Australian Border and Protection Service.
Aspen Medical has been engaged by the ACBPS to provide medical support on board a number of Australian Customs Vessels, missions operate for approximately 28 days. This is not your standard Medical Officer role and as such we are not seeking a standard Medical Officer.
We are seeking a Medical Practitioner with a broad range of skills who can operate in very remote and sometimes difficult conditions. As the Remote Maritime Doctor you will be required to manage a broad range of contingencies without the support of an on board medical team. You will use your broad range of medical training and experience to respond to and treat all types of medical emergencies and issues which may arise during the voyage. This role will offer you the opportunity to showcase your adaptability and experience across a range of potential medical situations.

- Must be an Australian Citizen to obtain a security Clearance.
Experience, qualifications and documentation required:
The medical personnel are required to have, as a minimum standard, the following:
Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or an overseas considered equivalent recognised by the Australian Medical Council.
Current unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
Demonstrated high level of medical expertise and experience in the delivery of health care in a remote setting including experience as an independent operator sufficient to respond the broad range of contingencies up to an including life threatening conditions;
Evidence of successful completion of EMST, ATLS or REST within the last 4 years, or equivalent.
Evidence of successful completion of training and demonstrated experience in Advanced Cardiac Life Support;
Evidence of completion of applicable non-specialist surgical training, such as ACRRM Advanced Training in Rural Generalist Surgery Skills or Queensland health Advanced Skills Training in Surgery and/or Anaesthetics;
Demonstrated training and experience in the identification and management of infectious diseases; including tropical ailments and infectious diseases that are common in Northern Australia and South East Asia;
Evidence of active participation and completion of CPD as recognised by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, ACRRM PDP or other specialist college, as applicable;
Two professional references from Medical Practitioners who can attest to the applicant’s recent clinical experience in the provision of acute and primary care in remote locations.
Essential:
Possess significant resilience to withstand prolonged periods at sea potentially under significant stress related to the operational task and prevailing climate (tropical or Antarctic).
They must have the physical agility to move safely about a moving vessel in the Southern Ocean and climb a ladder from a tender to the vessel.
The ability to obtain a security clearance (including a Baseline and an Organisational Suitability Assessment)
