Doctor / Nurse (M/F) , Serbia

Employer: Médecins du Monde
Location: Serbia
Closing date: 16 Feb 2016

For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in 41 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.Since the beginning of the year, more than 280.000 migrants and refugees arrived in the Balkans. As a general observation, migrant health is impacted on by life in their country of origin, life in transit and life on arrival in their host country.

The path of migrants has been changing throughout the year and the number of persons trying to reach EU though the Balkan region has increased dramatically in August-September 2015. The Republic of Serbia has become a hotspot for migrants travelling to and through Europe.

In Serbia and Macedonia, MdM is launching a project on the 1st of November 2015 for 12 months, to provide multi-sectorial assistance to vulnerable migrants: hygiene kits, survival kits, healthcare through mobile clinics and support to local healthcare facilities.
