As a Medic you will;
• Be both a Medic and a Project Manager – support and facilitate a group of young volunteers
• Ensure the volunteers are completing an impactful and effective project
• Facilitate the personal development of the young volunteers
• Continuously deliver all medical advice and support
• Deliver first aid training to all volunteers
• Look after all general health of the volunteers
• React to any emergencies that may occur.
Essential Skills
• Medically qualified (either Doctor, Registered General Nurse or Paramedic) with a minimum of two years’ experience post-qualification
• Medical skills that are transferable to remote static environments as well as transient trekking sites.
• Willingness to be flexible and put the needs of the expedition and the volunteers first
• Ability to teach basic first aid and promote health and safety on expedition.
• Ability to prioritise
• High level of interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to listen, empathise and work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
• Open-minded attitude to learning about and engaging with Raleigh’s personal development concepts
• Ability to apply Raleigh’s development concepts to own personal development
• Ability to manage a variety of demanding and sometimes conflicting responsibilities in a physical, remote and dynamic environment
• Capacity to display effective personal leadership and develop leadership skills of others
• Ability to plan logically and in detail, producing practical, effective solutions to manage resources, achieve goals or overcome real problems
All volunteer managers are encouraged to fundraise for Raleigh International before the expedition, but once you are in country, Raleigh will cover the cost of your food, accommodation, training and preparation, specialist equipment, and insurance (excluding personal belongings cover).
In addition to this target, you will need to fund your own flights to and from the expedition country, vaccinations, personal kit and a visa, if required. Raleigh recognise as a medic you have specialised skills so are pleased to offer a further bursary for successful medic applicants.
