Emergency Nursing Coordinator - Field Hospital

Job Summary

This position will not be compensated unless responders are deployed to an emergency response.

The primary responsibility of the Emergency Nursing Coordinator - is to ensure the implementation of quality emergency nursing services in an emergency field hospital setting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Implementation:
Work with Medical Director to compile nursing needs for field hospital as part of initial and ongoing response;
Ensure that emergency care for affected population is provided according to internationally accepted clinical and ethical standards through close work with department leads, including triage, emergency room, in patient department, laboratory and operating room;
Collaborate with Medical Director and physicians on the implementation of MCI.

Monitoring and Evaluation:
Ensure utilization of standardized data collection tools, and train staff on accurate data collection;
Ensure accurate patient record keeping and reporting in line with ministry of health or other guidance;
Collect and analyze emergency services data to adjust implementation and care processes;
Collaborate with the relevant staff to improve field systems such as infection prevention and control, rational drug use, patient flow, and staffing and scheduling;
Work with Medical Director on implementing standardized internal reporting;
At deployment end, provide in-depth, concrete, and constructive feedback for the further development of the field hospital program.

Training and Human Resources:
Assess staffing and training needs, and institute hiring and training of necessary staff members.

External Liaison:
Collaborate with recognized health authorities, health agencies, donors and other stakeholders to utilize standardized reporting practices and information sharing.

Nursing degree with significant post graduate experience in a clinical emergency setting;
Experience in first phase disaster assessment and response;
Experience in delivering and managing emergency care in a disaster response setting, field hospital experience preferred;
Significant experience in program management and coordination at a senior level in emergency setting;
Ability to manage a budget with knowledge of donor requirements and accountability to affected populations;
Experience in effectively dealing with international and headquarters staff, as well as donor agencies, government officials, and other NGOs;
Sub-specialty training in Global Health (International EM), Disaster or Emergency Ultrasound;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required; working knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic skills desirable;
Must be able to demonstrate cross-cultural awareness and maintain a positive working relationship with clients and colleagues with professionalism and integrity;
Demonstrated skills in creative problem solving particularly in limited resource settings;
Experience in managing, training and motivating multiethnic and multicultural teams.
