Medical Coordinator - South Kivu, Fluent in French

As a medical coordinator (MedCo), you will be responsible for the overall development of the medical strategy and medical programming for MSF’s projects in a country.

Your job

Your work as a MedCo will be very diverse, whereby you plan, design, coach and coordinate the implementation of the overall medical content, strategies, activities and resources in order to facilitate quality medical care for patients and their communities. You will also guarantee the appropriate implementation and management of all medical aspects of the projects of the mission. This will be done in close collaboration with the Head of Mission, the Medical Department and other local authorities and stakeholders, while following MSF protocols and values. More specifically, some tasks you will complete include: evaluating the medical team through appraisals; defining and implementing an appropriate health policy framework; being responsible for preparing all medical orders and medical purchase requests; and supervising the medical-technical aspects (in coordination with the LogCo); and representing MSF at all times. You will be stationed in Bukavu (South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo).

Requirements for Medical Coordinator
Degree in medicine or other paramedical studies.
A minimum of 2 years relevant post-qualification work experience with similar responsibilities in a comparable position
A minimum of 2 years working in MSF or other NGOs in developing countries
Fluency in English and French
Experience in training, coaching and supervision
Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload
Ability to work in an international team
Competencies: Strategic vision, leadership, analytical thinking, networking, (quality) results oriented
Willingness to work in an unstable and insecure environment
Availability of 12 months (with opportunity for possible extension)
Computer literacy is required
Able to start as soon as possible

Assets
A specialization in tropic medicine or a degree in Public Health.
Familiarity with tropical and infectious diseases
Knowledge of key international public health issues and clinical topics (relevant to MSF)
A good command of Swahili
