Trauma Surgeon (NATO) - Afghanistan

Scope:
The Trauma Surgeon reports to the International, Chief Operating Officer / SVP and is supervised clinically by the designated site medical director Surgeon’s work. This setting may require the Trauma Surgeon to coordinate with local hospitals to determine local capabilities, coordinate admission, monitor and arrange final disposition. In addition, this setting may require stabilization of patient and coordination of evacuation of patient to medevac center or CONUS. The Trauma Surgeon may have a leadership role (Site Medical Director). The Trauma Surgeon will provide preoperative, operative, and post-operative management of patient care. In addition, Trauma Surgeons will provide preoperative, operative, and post-operative management of patient care. In addition, Trauma Surgeons may be required to assist in stabilization of patient and coordination of evacuation of patient care/treatment model.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform and/or provide direction and support for the following services:
Serve as Surgical Team Lead
Analyze patient’s medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify operation’s necessity and to determine the best procedure.
Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, and preparation and treatment of the patient’s operative area.
Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialist, residents and other medical staff.
Examine patient to provide information on medical condition and surgical risk.
Follow established surgical techniques during the operation.
Operate on patients to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patients’ functions.
Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary.
Conduct research to develop and test surgical techniques that can improve operating procedures and outcomes.
Examine instruments, equipment, and operating room to ensure sterility.Prepare case histories.
Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons.Assists with the managing of day to day activities and prioritizing tasks.
Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain a specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
Comply with all applicable CHS ME standards and guidelines.Participate and advise in Mass Casualty Exercise/Events.
Document care delivered and follow up care required.

Job Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:
University Degree in Medicine and Surgery
Postgraduate specialization in Trauma Surgery
3 years of experience in the practice of General Surgery
Hold and maintain a current unrestricted government-issued license or practicing certificate
Accredited to a recognized U.S. standard or proven equivalent national qualificationProficient in speaking, writing and reading English.
Have graduated from an Allopathic Medical School/college listed in the Avicenna directory of Medical schools published by the World Health Organization (WHO) or the International Medical Education Directory (MED) of the foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the ability to be granted a DoD Secret.
Must have a valid US PassportPerforms duties in a safe manner.
Follows the corporate safety policy. Participates in and supports safety meetings, training, and goals.
Ensures safe operating conditions within an area of responsibility.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
However, there will be times when exterior/outside work environment and in-country travel by surface and/or air will be required.
The climate can be hot, dry and prone to inclement weather.
May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.
