Proper medical support is essential to the running of mine/UXO
clearance operations. The Medical Advisor, dedicated to any mine action
project, ensures that the medical support available is optimum under
any circumstances. He/she recruits the local paramedics, tailors the FSD
medical training courses to fit the project and context, trains the
local paramedics who will be working with each demining team, provides
first aid courses to deminers and international technical personnel,
designs the medical evacuation plan, promotes health and safety
measures.
The Medical Advisor has a professional background as ambulance paramedic, emergency nurse, medical doctor. He/she is qualified and experienced in Advanced Trauma Life Support, pre-hospital stabilisation of accident injuries and in teaching to junior medical students. We favour candidates with prior experience in humanitarian work, post-conflict environments, operations in remote sites, and those with experience in, or exposure to, mine action projects.
