Department Emergency Medicine
Description Manages Emergency Medical Services Team, orders and maintains supplies and assures Quality Control of EMS services. Provides advanced life support care to patients. Transports and transfers patients as well as assesses the extent of an illness or injury to establish and prioritizes follow up medical procedures. Applies artificial respiration or administers oxygen in cases of suffocation and asphyxiation, starts and administers intravenous fluids, performs other emergency medical procedures during transport. Must be NREMT-P, ACLS and CPR certified. ACLS and CPR Instructor certification is Requested, but not Required. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Supervises and Manages Paramedics (EMT-Ps) and EMT-Bs throughout the Area of Record.
2. Maintains vehicles, equipment, tools, and protective clothing in a serviceable ready-response condition.
3. Responds to emergencies as required. Administers medical services for patient care within the scope of their training.
4. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and addressing issues regarding shift schedules.
5. Conducts recurrent proficiency training and OJT.
6. Instructs base populous and F&ES members in regards to medical classes.
7. Evaluates F&ES medical skills and abilities.
8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Paramedic Supervisor.

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent is required; Associates/Bachelors
is preferred


Experience Requires registration at an EMT-P (NRP) level with the National Registry and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a paramedic and a minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a supervisor in EMS or Fire and/or a combination of education and experience that will allow the individual to be successful. Instructor certifications (such as ACLS, BLS, PALS, PHTLS, AMLS, ICS, etc.) are desired.


Competencies Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the Medical Faculty Associates (MFA). Must be able to do math calculations and input data into the computer.

Supervision Received
Reports to the Paramedic Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised
Supervision may be exercised over paramedics.
