Principle Accountabilities
The Primary Care Clinic nurse is responsible for providing high quality care to patients in a safe, efficient and courteous manner, using proper procedures outside of the continental United States.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriately to the patients served.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.
Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age specific needs and to provide the care needed
Be prepared to care for patients from all cultural and religious backgrounds
Performs within accepted ethical and compliance guidelines and reports variances to their immediate supervisor
Reports to:
VMG Medical Director, VMG Director of Operations, On-Site Clinic Medical Director
Essential Functions
Takes patients to exam rooms, obtains and documents chief complaints, allergies, and medications
Assists provider (MD/DO, PA/NP) in procedures such as dressing changes, pelvic exams, lacerations repairs, etc.
Attends to needs of patients and visitors
Assure that consents are obtained and signed
Exhibit cooperation and positive attitude toward other staff and departments
Complete incident and other forms as required
Follows procedure for authorized medication administration and narcotic control
Communicates questions regarding appropriateness of medical care through chain of command as needed
Assure that patients are seen in an orderly and fair manner, and that delays and waiting times are explained. Acutely ill and injured patients are triaged and seen first.
Initiate evaluation and care of patient prior to the Provider’s arrival according to standing orders.
Prepare patients for examination and assist as needed. Arrange for follow up care or referral.
Complete necessary documentation.
Arrange for transfer of patients to other facilities as needed.
Secondary Functions
Patient teaching
Complete routine equipment checks and stock supplies. Assist with inventory management.
Attend in-service and educational meetings as required.
Adhere to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care
Experience and Education
Prefer at least 2 years of experience in an outpatient care area
Prefer BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current licensure as a Registered Nurse
Must have knowledge of material inventory principles.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to eight (8) hours per day and sit for up to three (3) hours per day.
Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
Employee must be able to lift and carry 120 pounds 100 meters.
Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print.
Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depths.
All employees must receive immunizations appropriate to the theater of operations prior to employment.
Work Environment:
Works in a clean, well-lighted, and temperature controlled area.
Exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, and infectious diseases is possible.
Work schedule depends on department need and staffing patterns.
Holiday and weekend work as necessary.
Travel:
Must have current passport with no travel restrictions
Must be able to travel to and between remote locations
